Tamar is a writer, journalist, and historian in training
Her commitment to deep storytelling comes from the belief that narratives have the potential to drive change and that they imbue life with value and meaning.
Since 2020, Tamar has been a staff reporter at Prism where her coverage focuses on race, culture, history, and injustice— particularly that which defines the criminal legal system. Her writing has been featured in Essence magazine, Shadowproof and Truthout, among other outlets. Tamar was a finalist for the 2022 INN Nonprofit News Award for Explanatory Journalism and was named the 2024 Hardman Journalist in Residence at the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts.
Tamar is currently pursing her PhD in History at Temple University where her research focuses on 18th and 19th century African American history, gender and slavery, and public memory. She is an alumna of Wellesley College and Columbia University’s Graduate School of Journalism. Home, however, has served as her greatest classroom-- whether that be Brooklyn, where she was raised, or Philadelphia, where she currently resides.
